Carbonite Releases BlackBerry Client App for their Backup Service

carbonite blackberry app When I was shopping around for a good backup solution I came across some great reviews of Carbonite and their backup service. The main reason I did not choose them was because they charge per computer you want to backup unlike SugarSync which allows multiple PC’s. The upside is that Carbonite gives you unlimited backup space.

Now Carbonite has just extended their offering by adding a BlackBerry client app for the service. The app allows you to:

  • Browse: Carbonite customers can see files on their BlackBerry smartphone arranged exactly as they are on their computer(s).
  • View: Files types including PDFs, images, audio and video files, Excel files and Word documents, can be downloaded and opened anywhere and at anytime on a BlackBerry smartphone.
  • Share: Files backed up with Carbonite can be attached and emailed easily from a BlackBerry smartphone.

You can read more about the service or download the app at If you do not already have the service it costs $54.95 per computer per year with unlimited backup space and they have a free 15 day trial available.

Currently the app only supports BlackBerrys running OS 4.6.1+ including the following devices:

  • BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 smartphone
  • BlackBerry Curve 8300 Series
  • BlackBerry Curve 8500 Series
  • BlackBerry Curve 8900 Series
  • BlackBerry Bold 9000 smartphone
  • BlackBerry Tour 9600 series

Carbonite online backup installs with just a few clicks and runs quietly in the background, continually backing up the irreplaceable files on a computer. For $54.95 per year, Carbonite subscribers get unlimited backup space. For new customers interested in testing Carbonite’s award-winning online backup service, a free 15-day trial of Carbonite is available at

  1. Carbonite also has a plan called Carbonite Pro ( which offers support for multiple computers, but the pricing tiers are based on the amount of space you use.

  2. Trying to install it on my BlackBerry Bold 9700 without success, any ideas?

  3. Efraim,

I’m sorry to hear about your trouble installing. The Bold 9700 isn’t on our list of supported devices at this time, which is why you were unable to install.

If you send me an email at [email protected], I’d be happy to add you to our beta list. That way, you’d have an early look at any beta build that supports your device.

  4. I went to the link stated on the website from my phone and i don’t see a download link anywhere, i have the tour.

  5. Same here…no download link. And no response to my e-mail.

    • Ditto, including no response from the Carbonite folk. Tonight, saw a posting on another thread stating that the app runs on OS 4.6.1 only. Support for OS 5 is coming Real Soon Now. Would be polite of’em to include that bit of information on the d/l site, eh?
