Free Wizi SMS App Lets You Easily Send a SMS With Your Location

wizi SMS Tongue twister right? Wizi SMS Location is a nice and simple app that lets you easily send a text message with a link to your location based on GPS or cell towers. Its really that simple. The app is integrated with the Address Book and SMS app letting you add a tinyURL with your location that recipients can click on to see your location on a map.

The app finds you on the map using your GPS or Cell ID location. It then lets you also switch between map and satellite view which odd :).

Still for a free app it works well. Let us know if you find a good use for it!

  1. When were YOU in Portugal? 🙂

  2. What is the cost for using the sms service?

  3. Has anyone who is

    1) is on a CDMA network (e.g., VZW, Sprint, …); and
    2) is using a device with OS v5.0

been able to send an SMS message from this app?

  4. Tried a couple times from Tour to Storm (both VZW official OS 5.0) and no send.

    From my BlackBerry Tour…

  5. Hi! My name is André and I work at Wizi.

Adam: this application uses the cell phone’s SMS application and sends standard text messages. There’s no extra cost sending the SMS, however it requires internet access to download the map tiles and to generate the location link. Note that map view and zoom level are kept in the map so you choose how the map will be viewed by the receiver.

DavidB: I am sorry that you are experiencing those issues. There is a bug in OS 5.0 that prevents us from writing the body in the SMS message. After opening the contact the messages were appearing blank. We had to use a workaround and paste the entire message into the body which requires more permissions and we believe that certain BES accounts do not allow it. Probably there are side effects afecting determined users and we are focused on these cases willing to fix it asap. Could you please give me more information about what happened? This morning we released version 1.2.4 fixing a bug affecting certain contacts. You can find further information at:

Tom: thank you for your feedback and specially for your patience. We haven’t still find out what is causing your exception but we are still working on it. When we were trying to fix your bug we discovered how to fix Ben’s issue (the story told in the link above). Maybe we can find how to fix your bug while trying to solve DavidB’s issue 🙂
