If you do not know how to upgrade your BlackBerry OS please start by reading this great step by step guide. Don’t forget to delete the vendor.xml file located in c:program files>common files>research in motion>apploader to install it on a different carriers device. Don’t forget our usual warnings: do not download and install these updates if you don’t know what you’re doing. Incorrect procedure or just bad luck could render your BlackBerry inoperative or unstable. Via CB

  2. Works like a charm. This time I did a backup, device wipe then install the apps I need.
Everything works like a charm and my boot time is down from 10 mins to 3:30
    Lovin it.

  3. Downloaded last night from 593.
All seems to be working fine.

    2. edge & gprs no appriciable change
    3. BBm no noticable change

  4. One thing that used to bother me the long time it took to re-store on bbm groups this time I didn’t have a problem with that.

  5. It seems twitter for BlackBerry is not working

  6. I am the same as “yodaisalive99” above. No issues and my startup time went from 6 min and 17 secs, to 2 mins 28 secs.

I am with AT&T and the phone is not as bloated and much more responsive, even appworld opened in 2 secs! lol

  7. Just installed it and something weird happened in the process.
I installed the new OS onto my PC (as usual)
Then I opened Desktop Manager to do a manual backup before deleting the Vendor.xml and running AppLoader to install the new OS
But DM said there was an updated OS available for my device (and afaIk Rogers hasn’t released this latest version) so I decided to let DM do its thing and it loaded 656 onto my BB with no problems!
    Weird huh?

  8. Yeah I just connected my BlackBerry to DM also and it detected the update even though is on my BlackBerry already

  9. That’s even weirder LOL it wanted to ‘update’ to a version of the OS you already have installed!

  10. The only issue I’m having is my sounds don’t work when they should. I use it for my alarm, and the time comes and goes without it making a peep. Yet if I go into change sounds, they work. Just not when they are supposed to. So if recieve a text, my sound doesn’t go off to alert me. Any ideas how to fix? Thnx.

    • I’ve also noticed that my mute button does nothing and the lock button @ the top left locks it but works more like a standby mode than an actual lock of the device.

  11. Ah, okay, so far I have also found that the “standby” does nothing when I click on it. No app problems in 3 days, so far…
