Dropbox BlackBerry App Coming Soon…

Dropbox Anywhere The popular file synching and backup solution Dropbox currently only has a mobile optimized website for BlackBerrys. Their main competitor, SugarSync, does have a BlackBerry app and it looks like Dropbox has realized that they are missing out on millions of users.

Denholm pointed out to us that Dropbox has recently changed their website at www.dropbox.com/anywhere to say that they have a BlackBerry app “Coming Soon.” I know quite a few Dropbox users who will be happy to hear the news that they will finally be able to access files easily on the go. I hope that Dropbox goes one step further than SugarSync and lets you synchronize certain folders like the pictures folder from your BlackBerry to their service. That would be really cool!

  1. SugarSync doesn’t support Linux, making it effectively worthless to me.

DropBox does support Linux, so I’m really looking forward to having a client on my BB. The mobile website is really only good for hand-picking the occasional file I want to download, and is a pain to use regularly. However, on the desktop, I’ve used DropBox as my universal kludge for synchronizing data between apps that don’t provide their own sufficiently good methods for syncing data.

  2. Yay!

  3. Let’s hope Dropbox gives us BIS users the option to use BIS data (and WiFi). SugarSync uses the carrier APN and that costs me too much!

    • this is an excellent point. if the app allowed you to turn off (or limit) syncing over carrier network data, well, i would pay extra for that!
