Q&A With BlackBerry Pearl 9100 Product Manager

9100 Right when RIM launched their official BlackBerry Blog I told them they should do interviews with the team responsible for each product launch. They have been doing a great job of interviewing the product managers and the latest with the product manager Joseph Gordon for the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 does not disappoint. I even learned something I did not hear about during WES. I had no idea that the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 would support VGA (640×480) video recording. My Bold can only do 480×360 so that’s a nice upgrade.

A couple other interesting facts dropped in the interview:

  • The new 14 key regular keypad on the 9105 is targeted towards the majority of Asia and parts of Europe where regular phones prevail
  • The BlackBerry Pearl line provides a dual purpose for RIM. It is an introductory BlackBerry for new users and it is slim and attractive for those who prefer a smaller device
  • The BlackBerry Pearl 9105 was also designed to support other languages beyond the Latin alphabet including Arabic, Russian, Greek, Hebrew, Simplified Chinese, and more. I guess it is simpler for RIM to do that with the traditional keypad.
