Hands On With The BlackBerry Pearl 9100 & Bold 9650

Right after RIM’s announcements here at WES we got a chance to check out some sample devices. I have to say the new BlackBerry Pearl 9100 is HOT and has a very nice build quality. The phone is light and feels much nicer than the original 8100 series since it has the metal casing. The screen is sharp and even I want one. I am still confused as to why RIM is releasing a version with a regular 12 key keypad but supposedly they did some market research in developing countries and there is demand for such a format.

Here are some more details we learned:

  • The BlackBerry Pearl 9100 will NOT have OpenGL 3D graphics acceleration
  • It will come in a variety of colors including a very cool fade from black to red which will launch on Rogers
  • The BlackBerry Bold 9650 will launch on Sprint with a 2GB microSD card
  • Both devices will ship with OS 5 but the Bold 9650 will come with 512MB of RAM

  1. Hey Ronen, are all the 9650’s Sprint branded, and the 91xx’s AT&T branded? So no concrete hints at TMO or VZW?

  2. 9100 looks very, very clean… 9650 VZ

Also I believe the 9650 was caught with VZ branding in the wild a long time ago (that and it’s more or less assumed anyhow).

  3. Nice spam entry, since the 9100 isn’t released yet.
