BlackBerry Pearl 3G: 9100 and 9105 released officially

This is the week of WES and RIM is there releasing some new stuff. Another interesting announcement is the official release of the 91xx Pearl 3G series. So far, two new devices are included in that series, allegedly “the smallest BlackBerry® smartphone yet”: the 9100 and the 9105. Here come the specs:

  • Tri-band UMTS/HSDPA and quad-band EDGE/GPRS/GSM
  • 624 Mhz processor
  • 256 MB internal Flash memory
  • 360×400 display (238 ppi)
  • optical trackpad
  • 3.2 MP camera with zoom, autofocus, flash and video recording
  • GPS with support for geotagging
  • Wi-Fi® (802.11 b/g/n) — note the ‘n’ protocol is included
  • slot for microSDHC cards up to 32 GB
  • Bluetooth® 2.1
  • BlackBerry OS 5
  • Removable, rechargeable 1150 mAhr battery that provides approximately 5.5 hours of talk time on 3G networks
  • Dimensions: 4.25″ x 1.96″ x 0.52″ (108 mm x 50 mm x 13.3 mm), 3.3 oz (93 grams)

The new Pearl 3G line should be available from various carriers in May. It will be available in two models and several colors. The 9100 model features a 20-key condensed QWERTY keyboard. The 9105 model features a 14-key traditional phone keyboard. Both models include SureType®. You may be able to get a little extra information at the Pearl 3G line page.

  1. So when it launches on CDMA are we thinking 9150/9155? Think Verizon and Sprint will each offer both?

    I think RIM should have engineered a way for the user to easily switch between the two keyboard styles and then offered all Pearl3G’s with both (rather than making folks choose up front). I believe that would have been a market first.

  2. If they have released these phones… why can I not find them on any cell service providers site? I have the old RIM 8120, and would like to update, but currently cannot find anywhere where I can buy it.

    I don’t believe any USA carrier has announced for sure they will carry.
