Google Maps Gets Minor Update to v4.0.2

Gmaps 4.0.2 The last update for Google Maps added a new Buzz layer along with Voice Search and other options that sync your favorites. Gilli tipped us off to the fact that Google has gone and updated the app from version 4.0.1 to 4.0.2. My best guess is that the minor version bump fixes bugs found in the upgrade to 4.0 but who knows.

You can download the update at m.google.com/maps

Anybody want to play “Guess what Google fixed?” :)

  1. I’m hoping they fixed the overlay menu bug i’ve been having. In some occasions when you bring up the menu, it would become unclickable (Storm 2 only?), which made the app unusable because the menu wouldn’t go away. Updating now.

  2. I have downloaded and played with this app for a few minutes now on my Storm 2 .607. Where the app had been freezing on searches, and/or pulling up the menu, everything seems to be working normal. Hope this stays true with some extended use. I really missed Google maps the last few weeks.

  3. I want to know why this app now requires Recording permissions. Kinda annoying that it won’t run without it. Any ideas?

  4. Wow…I was still running 3.2.1! I had no idea there was a newer version, and I use Google Maps like every day!

  5. I was running 3.2 before this on a Curve 8330, and this new version is *slooooooow*. It’s forever saying “loading” in the top right corner, and waiting on map sections to download. I wish I had the old version to reinstall. This one plain sux.

    • Interesting…I’m running a tour 9630, and I had the problem in reverse. When I had 3.2.1 installed, it was very useful, but very slow. It would constantly give me an hourglass, and say Loading, etc, but this new version is much snappier for my phone.

  6. I don’t know if this is just me. But since this version, I am now able to use GPS on my STORM from BELL (Canada). WoooHooo!
