Official OS From Verizon For The Tour 9630 V

verizon-blackberry-tour-9630 Tom let us know that Verizon has officially released OS for the tour 9630 that will allow the new Push To Talk service to work.  The OS version that has been officially release seems to be the same version that was leaked a few days back. If you were one of those waiting for an officially release today is your lucky day or night I should say.

You can download it directly from this link not sure if it has been pushed through desktop manger yet.  Let us know if you are able to upgrade through DM.

  1. thanks for inor. I’d go to check it. visit my blog for newest tech news.

  2. Just some quick feedback after installing the long awaited OS v5.0:

    1) Longstanding issue with a limit to the number of applications installed on the device ( appears to be resolved.

    2) Only two applications running under OS v4.7.1.61 would not run with OS v5.0, namely BeejiveIM and wIPzard — the respective developers have OS v5.0 builds available for both.

    3) The installation was painless with the exception of the normal re-licensing dance for 3rd-party applications.

    4) I had one crash when configuring Voice Dialing, but all was well after the device rebooted.

All in all, it appears to be a relatively stable and robust build.

  3. It IS the same version NUMBER but the downloaded OS exe is NOT identical to the leak from last week.

  4. Two more incompatible apps that I discovered are Beyond160 (Cannon Software) and AutoStandby (Steelthorn Software) — there is currently NO v5.0 friendly build for either (i.e., the same is true for ALL v5.0 releases.

  5. I believe the reason Auto-Standby doesn’t work is because Standby Mode is gone! Pressing the mute button no longer does anything besides mute phone calls. I know that OS still had a working Standby Mode but this is the direction of all future OS 5.0 releases. There is an official KB-article pointing this out.

It’s too bad…I used Standby Mode everytime I place my device in my pocket. Locking the device just isn’t the same.
