Quite a few people have asked me questions about how the new Skype Mobile application for Verizon works. There is confusion as to when it will use your minutes and when it will be a free Skype call. Tom let me know that Verizon put up a FAQ website just to answer these questions at this link. They also threw together this useful chart showing how it all fits together.
Check it out below with the full chart after the jump:
- While there are no monthly subscription fees for Skype mobile, Skype mobile is currently only available on select BlackBerry and Android 3G Smartphones with a data feature starting at $29.99.
- You can make and receive unlimited Skype-to-Skype calls and IM’s.
- Calls to U.S. numbers will be carried by Verizon Wireless, not Skype, and charged according to your calling plan.
- Calling internationally uses Skype Credit, just like it does on your PC.

My question here is, as usual, will we be able to use skype for blackberry-to-blackberry (or any other device running skype really) calls?
That’s the very thing none of the other solutions do not allow us to (I didn’t try IM+ for skype thou, and I hear it is making skype calls, but don’t know if BB-to-BB is possible).
That’s the main reason I want skype on my device really (assuming ANY other carrier will ever have it).

Yes, you can initiate or receive any Skype-to-Skype calls, but BlackBerry-to-BlackBerry does not really make a lot of sense as this would be Verizon-to-Verizon (aka free mobile-to-mobile). No other carrier will have it as the deal is exclusive between Big Red and Skype.
