Rumor: Screenshot of Desktop Manager 6.0?

desktop manager 60 There really isn’t much to see here in terms of features but its always fun to drool over possible future releases from RIM. Peter over at BBNews.pl scored a screenshot of what they think it BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6.0. My dream is that the next version of desktop manager would remove the need to ever connect my BlackBerry via USB. Maybe doing backups and restores over my home Wi-Fi network… I digress.

No word on what might be coming with 6.0 other than the obvious support of OS 6.0. I did notice a new button for podcasts that I have never seen in the screenshots. Let us know what you think in the comments!

  1. This is all very exciting. But there one problem that has never been sorted when upgrades have been issued for BBDM. It is always unstable and seems to crash whenever it feels like it. Does anybodyelse have this problem?

  2. Its nice to see RIM upgrading their software, but I think I speak for the linux community that it would be equally important to release a version for linux. I only keep my microsoft vista running to update my BlackBerry and that’s it. I would love to reclaim my wasted hard drive space.

    • I think one of the main reasons that Linux has been slow to gain market-share is the fact that most major companies, particularly those that offer hardware which connects to a computer (such as mobile phones, eBook readers, gaming consoles, etc…), repeatedly ignore Linux and refuse to make their software available for a Linux distribution… Virtually ALL of the software from COMMERCIAL companies that I’ve seen has been for development purposes (such as theme-or application-building tools).

Yes, I think it’s unlikely that everyone will jump-ship to a Linux distribution if all their hardware natively worked with Linux (Apple’s a good example of this, as most hardware now works with Apple computers), but there’s a chance it’d encourage the porting of popular/mainstream commercial software and with a little luck, start the “snowball effect”…

  3. Great I hope that means OS 6 is always near

    • It’s strange that there are ALREADY rumors relating to BlackBerry OS 6.x, considering BlackBerry OS 5.0 is still in the process of being rolled-out by service providers… Of course when it comes to Research in Motion (RIM), this means nothing and the upgrade could be YEARS away yet!

  4. I think the layout looks stunning.
