Verizon LTE Coming to “One Third of America” by Year End

Verizon 3G Map Even though it was rumored that it might come earlier Verizon Senior Vice President Tony Melone confirmed at CTIA that LTE would be coming “in the not to distant future.” Melone said that Verizon is planning on launching “25-30 networks this year covering one third of America by the end of 2010.”

Its exciting to hear that it is right around the corner! Still I wish we could get in on the LTE love sooner rather than later. We heard rumors before that RIM is working on a LTE BlackBerry so hopefully they will have one soon after LTE launches. I just don’t want another 3G BlackBerry fiasco where it took RIM almost 2 years to get a 3G BlackBerry out the door. Verizon also confirmed that data LTE devices would be coming first with smartphones following shortly thereafter in 2011.

  1. Verizon also said all data-only devices would have 4G and 3G. I wonder if RIM can cram LTE/EV-DO/CDMA/WiFi all in one phone, then through GSM/HSPA on top for a “world” phone? Gonna be an interesting ride soon fir us gadget lusters!

  2. What is Verizon LTE ?
