Confirmed! Verizon Skype Service & App Coming Tomorrow

SkypeMobile Skype announced on their blog that they will be launching their Verizon partnership starting Thursday March 25th. You read that right, it is launching TOMORROW!

As a reminder the new Skype Mobile service on Verizon BlackBerrys will let you:

  • make and receive unlimited Skype-to-Skype voice calls to anyone else on Skype around the globe
  • send and receive unlimited instant messages with other people on Skype
  • call international phone numbers at low Skype rates

Skype Mobile will use Verizon’s network for the wireless connection of calls so it will be interesting to see what the call quality will be like. Skype to Skype calls will not be charged against your monthly bucket of minutes from Verizon and you can use your Skype Credits to make international calls. You can sign up to be notified when the service goes live at this link on Verizon’s website.

Should be pretty cool! Can’t wait to see how it plays out!

  1. The app can be downloaded from http://mobile.vzw.com/download/Bourbon/BB9630/Skype_mobile.jad (also, now #17 on the Get Applications menu off of the VZStart Browser homepage). Apparently, all Skype calls are routed through a Verizon Wireless number (404.941.8603) that is added to the Address Book. So far the app appears to be well implemented as far as layout, but time will tell…
