RIM Confirms Plans for Manufacturing BlackBerrys in Brazil
We told you yesterday that it was rumored that RIM was going to announce a manufacturing plant in Brazil. Turns out that rumor was right on the money. One of our Senior Editors was attending a RIM development seminar in Brazil and RIM confirmed their plans to start manufacturing BlackBerrys in the country.
They plan on working with Flextronics to manufacture the BlackBerry Curve 8520 in Brazil. It looks like RIM is planning on making an even bigger play into Latin America with Brazil combined with their current plant in Mexico.
The slide to the right details RIM’s plans for opening the new BlackBerry Academic program in Brazil. I have yet to see some solid results from the program but it will be interesting to see if it gains traction.
