Thumbplay On Device Music Store Released With Subscription Model

We told you awhile back that Thumbplay was working on a new music store for BlackBerry devices. The app is on device with OTA downloads and has some serious features that put it toe to toe with 7Digital’s music store. I had a chance to try a prerelease version of the app a few months ago and I was suitably impressed. Downloads OTA were quick and the app lets you stream music from their store.

The real differentiator is that Thumbplay’s music store is a subscription model where the full monthly subscription is $9.99 a month with a free trial for a few days. That means you can stream and download to your hearts content but will lose the songs if you cancel the subscription.

UPDATE: Thumbplay let me know that if you cancel your subscription you will still be able to access the music/playlists – but you will only be able to hear samples of the songs. Also, if you cancel but then re-subscribe at a later date, all of your playlists and favorited artists, etc. will still be there in full, just as you left it. There is also the opportunity for individual purchase (DRM-Free, variable pricing), and all of those songs are yours to keep –whether you subscribe or not.

Check it out in App World at this link or directly from the links below:

Key Features:

  • Unlimited, on-demand access to any artist or album; millions of songs to choose from
  • Online and offline access. No connection? No problem!  Listen on the subway or in-flight.  Your music, available anytime, anywhere.
  • Effortless playlist creation; auto-sync’s between smartphone and PC/Mac
  • Discover new music with AutoPlaylist: instantly generate customized recommendations based on your favorite songs
  • Build your personal music collection with Favorites; auto-sync between smartphone and PC/Mac
  • Search – Find music by artist, song, album or genre; includes free previews of all songs
  • Includes its own in-app media player
  • Import existing iTunes® playlists within Thumbplay Music’s companion desktop app. With a few clicks, recreate iTunes playlists and have them available on your smartphone and PC/Mac.
  • Free, three-day trial for all users; after that, $9.99/month
