I just spotted a new book about RIM that was just released this month. It was written by Canadian Rod McQueen with forewords written by Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis. I have not had a chance to read it myself but so far reviews are reporting that McQueen managed to get more access to both Co-CEO’s of RIM than any previous author. Thane Burnett from The Sudbury Star managed to get some nice excerpts from the BlackBerry secrets revealed in the book. My favorite is below:
When the BlackBerry was launched in 1999, among the short-listed names for the new product was Blade until someone went online and found that one of the Blade domains led to an Internet porn site. Other finalist names included Byline and Outrigger.
I would definitely carry around a Blade… You can find the book on Amazon at this link for about $17 though sadly they did not release a Kindle version to read on Amazon’s recently released app. I will report back once I get a chance to read the book in depth.
