Official OS for BlackBerry Bold 9000 Curve 8900 & 8520 Released by WIND Hellas

The official release of OS 5.0.509 for the BlackBerry Curve 8520 an  8900 and the BlackBerry Bold 9000 comes right after we leaked it so I doubt there are many differences if you have already upgraded. If not it seems like a pretty solid upgrade. Curve 8520 users will be glad to also get a nice new official update.

If you do not know how to upgrade your BlackBerry OS please start by reading this great step by step guide that Luis wrote up. NOTE: Don’t forget to delete the vendor.xml file located in c:program files>common files>research in motion>apploader to install it on a different carriers device.

Please confirm in the comments if this works for you!

  1. This has been the best OS upgrade for my 8900 ever!

  2. installed the leaked version (509) on 9000 – works perfectly! Did not have a single problem and I’m heavly using it for about 2-3 days.

  3. Does anyone know of a link to this OS upgrade other than the BB website. File is not available for some reason on their website.

    Get this message: We’re Sorry…

Sorry, the file is temporarily unavailable, please try again later or contact the webmaster.

  4. What’s the change from 5.0.464 on 9000?

  5. The download only works in IE. Firefox and chrome get the error messages.

  6. This version is still buggy. I can’t password lock my BlackBerry anymore. Well, I only can if I set one of the convenience keys to “Password lock” which STINKS because I am sacrificing a convenience key I was using for something else. The letter K doesn’t work anymore. People tell me I am supposed to use the A key, but that just puts the Berry in standby mode. The same applies to the padlock button on the top side of the device, it just puts the Berry in standby mode. Summing up, I’ve lost a convenience key.

The only solution is to downgrade, which I am not really keen on doing because of all the time it consumes to backup (BBM groups take forever), upgrade, wait wait wait wait, restore, all that shit. And I am really tired of all that because nothing wastes your time like a BlackBerry. You know, I think that is going to be the title of my next article, “Nothing Wastes Your Time Like a BlackBerry.” I am sick and tired of pampering this POS. I completely abandoned Windows fours years ago, and the BlackBerry in 2010 totally makes me feel like I am using Windows again.

  7. Well have downloaded and installed this on my 8900 and it works a dream.
Very happy with the OS its made my 8900 so much better . Battery life seems very good.

  8. Hi. I downloaded the OS, but when I installed and checked the version, it say version, not 509, also platform, not 47,. Where is the Catch?

  9. Boot times are to normal, 2 and half min or so, instead of previous 10 min+ I used to have. That’s about where it ends.

No K to lock for 8520, same as Luciano is experiencing.

Media player issues when connected on Bluetooth. When clicking to go to the next either by Media Buttons or Media player the next song is not audible but it is playing. Resolution is to pause and unpause song to correct BT streaming.

Higher lags when opening applications and group chats, nearly as long as 10 seconds.

  10. Works fine on my bold no more battery leak, sms also ok

  11. Setup Wizard running with blank screen on my Bold 9000.
    Do you have same problem?

I didn’t do setup wizard when 1st time running after install.

    • After restart (remove battery), I enter setup wizard again and it works fine.
Now, there is no problem with my Bold. No occurence of Battery & Memory problem.
      It’s great OS.

  12. Setup wizard on my bold works fine for tutorials date and time, wifi setup, bluetooth and others I didn’t touch on email setup cos am not on BIS

  19. Have you had any problems at this point? I’m trying to get the new software on my bold 9000 on AT&T and I’m just worried it will screw something up since it isn’t through at&t directly. Let me know please! Thanks!

  20. I love 5.0 for sure, but still lacks the WEBKIT browser for mobile flash support!
