I always wish that RIM would provide a free backup for consumer BlackBerrys but that has yet to come. BerryScoop got a solid tip that Verizon is planning on stepping in by providing a free Backup Assistant service for BlackBerrys on March 9th. The service will let you backup your BlackBerry contacts to Verizon’s My Verizon account free.
The app will be pretty simple to use. You just download the app and sign in with your PIN. You contacts will then transfer and be backed up. Seems pretty simple right? Now if only RIM would bake in the same feature into BIS…

As of OS 5.0, this IS built into the BlackBerry system. You can wirelessly sync your contacts with your GMail account, for free, over the BIS.

Ever tried using it? It screwed up my contacts twice… Wish there was a one way sync option…
