While some of this is not surprising the latest rumor from GizmoFusion shows that Verizon is moving 4 BlackBerry models to End Of Life status. This includes the BlackBerry Storm 9530 (Original Storm), BlackBerry Curve 8330, BlackBerry 8830, and the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230. I am still kind of shocked that Verizon is killing off the 8330 which is the most popular smartphone out today even though it has been replaced by the 8530.
The other surprise is that Verizon is also killing off the Pearl Flip 8230. That device was just released a few months ago and it is already gone. I guess that opens the door for the 9100 Striker soon… Now if only Verizon could get around to releasing the Tour2 9650 along with OS 5.0 for the original Tour 9630.

Bye bye to all those devices and yet they still offer the 8703e! I guess there is either still demand or they have a huge stockpile. Verizon is the only one of the “Big 4″ USA carriers still offering a thumb wheel BlackBerry so get one while you can!

Maybe a stupid question, but will they offer the customers with one of these phones another one they carry at a huge discount or maybe free? That’s the least they can do?

Just because they will no longer sell a particular phone doesn’t mean they no longer support it.
They already offer the Curve 8530 at $30, the Storm1 at $30, the Tour and Tour-NC at $100, and the Storm2 at $180 on renewed contract. The only additional discounts you’re likely to get as an owner of an older model is the New Every Two discount of either $50 or $100 depending on when you last renewed your contract and if your current plan is high enough to qualify for NE2. So if you’re eligible for NE2, you could probably pick up a Black or Smoky Violet Curve or Storm1 for free, if you’ve had your plan a while maybe even a Tour for free. Log into your account on their web site and it tells you what discounts you qualify for and when you are eligible for a NE2 upgrade.
Hope that helps.
