AT&T Takes the Prize With Best 3G Performance Nationwide

PC-World-ATT This totally came out of left field. As a AT&T customer I cannot help but complain about their shoddy 3G service in Manhattan but it looks like in 3G reliability AT&T too PC World prize. They have been investing heavily in their 3G network for the past few months and even they admit they need to fix their network issues in NYC and SF. The results of PC World’s test just goes to show how far that investment has gone.

PC World did a test across 13 US cities comparing AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint. AT&T came ahead with download speeds over 1,000kbps most of the time. The crazy part is that most of the other carriers didn’t even come close to 1,000kbps. AT&T is also leading in upload speeds in all but 1 market along with an average reliability rating of 94%.

Check out the full performance test on PC World’s website and let us know what you think! I am just waiting for AT&T to really amp up their coverage in NYC.

  1. I’m having some problems believing this. Where I am in central Florida I always have a strong 3G signal. The best I can usually get is 400-600kbs download and 25-50kbs upload. Maybe with a PC they can get these results if they cherry pick locations. With a smartphone? Not buying it.

  2. LOL. Who cares if the speeds are fast if you are in an area that AT&T has no service. Glad for the metropolitan areas getting upgrades, but what about the rest of the U.S.??

  3. I was really shocked by the San Diego (the HOME of CDMA) Verizon performance, and it doesn’t at all match up with my experience or the folks in San Diego that I work with every day. Maybe where we go (mostly Mission Valley, Old Town, Point Loma, and Coronado) aren’t where Verizon has problems in the San Diego area, but in those areas for sure Verizon kicks AT&T’s backside for reliability.

Oh well. I’m sure there are anomolies everywhere in this sort of data set.
