RIM has given us a chance to Beta test their official Twitter client before it is released to the BlackBerry community.
As you can see from the screen shot the client features a dark blue color. If you have used SocialScope before the client looks much like it so it did not take me long to get used to. The top includes dedicated icons such as Home, Mentions, My Profile, Direct Messages, Search for People, Search, and Popular Topics.
With the search option you are able to save your searches, also a cool feature similar to UberTwitter is the display of your location using the BlackBerry Maps interface. Right below the input box there is an icon you can click to upload an image.
More Screenshots after the jump………
Adam from CrackBerry has posted a nice YouTube video as well Link for Mobile view
Here are some features from their website where you can also sign up for updates:
Twitter® for BlackBerry® smartphones will soon be available for download, allowing you to do all the things you love on Twitter:
- Get your direct messages as soon as they arrive
- Reply to tweets, re-tweet and send direct messages
- Post a link from your BlackBerry® Browser
- Take a funny picture and upload it
- Share your thoughts or join a conversation
- Follow friends or search for popular topics
So far am pretty impressed with the design and the features included on it. At this time you can only view your profile but I would like the ability to edit my profile from it. Another feature I would like to see added to it would be the URL shrink option. It is working a little bit slow on mine but is probably because I have way too many apps running at the same time. If you are interested go to this link and sign up for updates: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/features/social/twitter.jsp? it will be available for the rest in a bout a month or so.

Can’t wait til this thing comes out of beta… I’ve used every other Twitter client for BlackBerry… really anxious to see how this one stacks up against the rest…

We have such tiny screens on our mobile devices and they’re wasting precious real estate on a useless Twitter logo and clouds banner and on a ribbon with icons/functions that could, instead, be accessed as entries of the traditional BlackBerry Menu key? What a remarkably stupid idea.
No wonder OS 5.0 has those stupid big buttons cluttering all the configuration menus and even Microsoft Crap style sub-menus: RIM must have laid off the good UI designers to save a buck or two.

For those lucky enough to get into the beta, are mentions direct messages and replies all integrated into a single feed, like SocialScope?

Hope the finished product includes profile settings for replies & DM’s instead of just twitter as a whole. For those of us who follow a lot of people getting notified for every incoming tweet can be overwhelming but it’s definitely useful to know when you’ve got DM’s or @’s coming at you.
Also, based on what I see I don’t see any real need or selling point to switch from the twitter app you use right now unless you want a flood of tweets clogging up your inbox.
