Will SocialScope Ever Be Released? Hopefully…

socialscopeliteSocialScope is one of the best Twitter apps out there for the BlackBerry but most people are locked out of trying it by their closed beta. SocialScope has been in beta since December 2008 which is one of the longest private beta periods I have ever heard of. Those of us who have access to the application can attest to how great it is but SocialScope needs to really hurry up or RIM will release their own official client before they ever get out of private beta.

As an update Tashanna let us know about an update that eve6er69 posted up from SocialScope. Essentially it tells everybody to hold tight…

People of Earth: We’ve been getting a lot of questions about the SocialScope beta process and want to address them.
First, no one should feel left out because they haven’t received an invite or are running a different version then someone else. As the beta progresses every one will be upgraded and more users will be added.
Second, we’re always seeding new versions of the app to small groups of users to test, tune and tweak SocialScope. Keeping the test groups small allow us to work closely with these users; making changes that would otherwise drive you cray and lead to overwhelming number of support emails for us. This is an iterative process that can take many versions until its ready for a wider group of users.
Finally, we’ve tried to be as inclusive as possible leading to a very very large private beta. That means we can’t respond to every email or @reply (we wish we could, but we’re a small team), but your feedback is really valuable to us and we read every email we get. “How do you select users to seed versions to?” Its largely random, but sometimes based on device type and carrier if we’re trying to track down a specific issue. “How long will it take for me to get version x?” We can’t give you a date, but as soon as its ready you’ll get an upgrade notice within the app. “I haven’t even gotten an invite yet…” We’re constantly expanding the beta when a spot opens up or the app is released publicly we’ll let you know.
Finally follow us and become a fan at to stay up to date with our latest news.

  1. Yawn. Thanks to SocialScope for whining about people wanting to use the tool they are developing. Get over yourself, the BB community is moving on, and your fate will be the same as that of Tweeteev…

  2. I have been waiting for 6 months now and still nothing. I agree that socialscope will go the way of Tweeteev if they don’t start opening up their beta more. Ubertwitter is a much better client and with continued upgrades they are one of the best out there. Seesmic is the same. They are taking advise and suggestions and have a great app that with the new acquisition of could possibly bring another big palyer to the multiple status update game!

  3. I used to be excited reading the reviews that would occasionally come out. Now I don’t care anymore and have been using Ubertwitter and love it. SocialScope can be released tomorrow and I won’t care.

  4. i’m lucky enough to be part of the beta and i love socialscope. i uninstalled ubertwitter.

  5. im been on socialscope version .44 for over a few months and ubertwitter has released 3 updates to their app. the fact that socialscope RANDOMLY selects ppl to try the new update sucks. and i have a link to the new but according to socialscope i cant use it.The app forces me to dwld to .44. honestly they need to get with the program. i deleted them off my blackberry ill check every few months but i garantee i will be still be on .44. i am sure i have plenty of ppl who agree with me on how they run things.

  6. SocialScope runs circles around any standalone twitter app because it also combines Facebook posts with twitter for a seamless, efficient wall feed. Waiting to be invited to the beta sucks (took me months to get my invite) but once you’re in you’ll be hooked. After running .44 for what it seems like an eternity (over a year) they finally sent me an invite to upgrade my 8900’s version of SS to 0.9.5 and I LOVE the upgrades (connectivity w/ Flicker/4Square, URL shortening, geocoding, alerts for any FB or twitter activity…). They’re moving at a snail’s pace but until a better client is introduced that successfully & efficiently combines twitter and FB, I’m stuck on SocialScope ftw!
