FCC Filing Confirms BlackBerry Curve 8910 With No 3G

BlackBerry-Curve-8910-FCC The team at PhoneScoop spotted the BlackBerry Curve 8910 on the FCC website. This is the same device we leaked a picture of a week ago. The FCC confirms that this device is probably coming to the US since it has GSM/GPRS/EDGE quad band 850/900/1800/1900 bands. It also includes Bluetooth but sadly there is no 3G radios on the FCC filing as you can see in this PDF.

  1. What’s the point in even MAKING 2G/2.5G devices?

3G/3.5G devices offer MUCH better coverage, SIGNIFICANTLY faster data speeds and greater security… Combine this with the increase in smartphones and, well it just makes no sense (particularly given that 3G/3.5G devices are almost always backwards-compatible with 2G/2.5G networks!).

  2. It does seem kind of pointless to continue making devices sans 3G. At least for the North American market. I can understand for perhaps bare bones entry level phones. But even without 3G the 8910 isn’t exactly a budget device.
