TetherBerry let us know they have rebranded as just Tether since they are expanding beyond the BlackBerry OS. They have just released a new version adding Bluetooth support. The cool part is that Tether has also been accepted into the App World which means that RIM did not block them.
Tether also put out a screenshot showing that they are 147% faster downloading than using native IP modem and 294% faster in uploads. You can see their proof to the right. Pretty impressive yet I never liked the startup process which they will hopefully simplify.
On a side note Tether is 50% off ($19.95) today only compared to the regular price of $39.95.

I found no speed difference whatsoever with Tether as compared to the FREE BlackBerry Desktop Manager IP Modem connection. All i need at the airports or quick is acces to some news and my email, which RIM’s Desktop Manager for BlackBerry does the job. Also why should I shell out $20 ~ $40 on tether. Anything special it does what BDM doesn’t do?
Thanks

I have heard that Tether would allow a Verizon user to achieve a tethered internet connection without the additional expense of Verizon’s monthly tether fee. BDM cannot achieve this.

There is one difference though, with the Desktop Manager, you will need to sign up for the tethering data plan with your carrier. With Tether, i don’t need to pay that extra $30 every month (i’m on att).
