Joseph let us know that SHAPE Services has released a new Business Card Reader application for BlackBerry. One of the features I really liked on the Droid was Google Goggles which lets you take a picture of a business card and import it into your contacts.
If you cannot wait for Google to port Goggles to the BlackBerry OS you can do the same thing with Business Card Reader. You just snap a picture of a business card and the app will convert it into a BlackBerry contact. They even have cool features like support for not only English but also French, Italian, German, and Spanish business cards.
The only downside is that unlike Google Goggles which is free this app costs $9.95 though it does have a free 7 day trial. The app is limited to the Tour, Curve 8900, Storm, Storm 2, Bold 9700 probably since they are the only devices with a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus.

When someone releases one of these that is all in one, that is, does this barcodes and qr codes that someone will have my money. My favorites of these apps is edocrab because it not only reads the barcodes but has some excellent functionality to it. But edocrab only does barcodes.
That said this is pretty awesome, they need to have a video demonstrating the software working.

Awesome idea but very poor execution…. too sad but the integration with Blackberry’s Contact fields is very bad – it put half of the fields in the wrong BB fields even though they were correctly named/scanned in the Shape application.
It looks to me more of a beta version and I urge readers to test it before shelling out $10….
Hopefully the get it right next time.
PS – yet again another disappointing app from Shape… too sad.
