Review: A few months ago Ronen was showing me his skydiving videos from Switzerland and mentioned how scared he was holding his camera so high in the air. The ContourHD is made specifically for that situation. Maybe that’s why when watching Stephen Colbert try the ice luge the other night he had a ContourHD strapped to his head.

  • IMG_7481Construction: The ContourHD is made from a hard plastic exterior and has a rubber back portion that holds all the removable parts (battery, memory card) in place through bumps, fall, tumbles and skydives.
  • IMG_7483Mountability: The ContourHD comes with multiple mounting stands. Each stand has a cohesive substance at one end to mount onto your helmet or your ride. At the other end are interlocking portions that fit into the slots on the ContourHD unit itself. So essentially, just remove the sticker portion from the mount and place it on your helmet and you are set.
  • IMG_7482Usability: The ContourHD has a single button on the back to turn it on and off. Once on, two lasers shine out from the face of the camera face so that you can see what the camera is pointing at and if it is level. There is one sliding switch at the top of the ContourHD. When pushed, there is a single beep and the ContourHD starts recording. When finished recording, simply slide the switch at the top of the ContourHD back into place to stop recording. Two beeps will let you know that it stopped. Similarly, hold down the power button to power down. Really simple.

IMG_7484Final Word: The ContourHD is a specialty device appeals mostly to outdoorsmen–from those who like to ride bicycles to those who jump out of planes–who would enjoy first person video of their adventures. After using the ContourHD for a few months for bicycle and scooter rides, I think it is the perfect device for the situation. It is durable so that I don’t worry about breaking it while involved in sporty activities, the mount is steady so I don’t have to worry about losing it, and most of all it is super easy to use when mounted to your head or vehicle. Thus, if you are in the market for a mountable durable HD camera, the ContourHD should be first on your list.

Below is an HD helmet cam video I took using the ContourHD while riding along the Hudson, enjoy!

  1. “…A few months ago Ronen was showing me his skydiving videos from Switzerland and mentioned how scared he was holding his camera so high in the air…”

Okay, what’s wrong with that quote?

Is it a) Ronen is skydiving, or b) Ronen is skydiving and the only thing he’s worried about is his camera?

Guess he really is your fearless leader…
