Jason let us know that Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 has been released for all of you to enjoy. I personally hate the controls in the new version but if you are a fan its a decent browser.
You can download the app free at m.opera.com/next or read more at this link.
Let us know what you think of the new update in the comments. I am curious to see if they have fixed the navigation compared to the first beta that had a clunky menu system.

At first blush, they have added the choice to open links in either the BB browser or Opera.

I was very excited when I saw this. Used Opera v4.2 a lot, but 5.0b1 had much to be desired, such as not becoming the default browser. To start, I have the 8900 (OS 5.0.0.348). First thing I noticed is the trackball can’t be used to select, only to scroll. I have to use the Enter key on my keyboard to select stuff, like select to address bar to enter a web address. I can click and click with the trackball but no effect. The enter key doesn’t even always work! I wanted to access my work e-mail via the web MS Outlook Exchange site, but the field to enter user ID and pswd I can’t select to type in, neither with trackball nor enter key, so I’m stuck. More weird I can’t use my trackball to select Opera 5.0b2 from the home screen icon either. Clicking does nothing! Very very strange!!

I’ve tried the previous beta release…that didn’t impress me much. I hope something good will come up with this release.

I’ve downloaded it on my BB 9700 (T-Mobile) and it’s not working. After a 30sec. lag, I had to Switch my app because it wouldn’t let me close the browser. I just did a battery pull because I couldn’t access Opera again after switching apps. My trackpad didn’t do anything other than navigate…I couldn’t click on anything to access links.
Here’s to hoping a battery pull will offer a quick fix.

Just did a batter pull and the same results. Trackpad isn’t clickable to access links. You have to use the “enter” key on your keyboard.
Once on a web page, you cannot even use the trackpad for “horizontal/lateral” navigation.
Probably shouldn’t download this version.

Wow. Like the new version. Works awesome on the storm. I like the tabs opera has added and the password manager. No more readding your password over and over again.

i bet it works nice on the storm since opera has had a lot of good feedback with touch screen devices, seems they added quite a few more things, but won’t work on trackball clicks or trackpad clicks.

Does this version still force itself on me as the default browser? If so, I’m not even going to attempt downloading it.

I used Opera Mini beta2 on my LG KU990 (Viewty) for a month now and it feels great.
It’s a great browser for a touch-screen phone.
The only problem I have is that it doesn’t work in landscape mode on this phone.
I hope this problem will be solved in the final version.
