IM+ for Skype v4 Beta – One Step Closer to True VOIP!!!

skype_call SHAPE let me know that they have just opened up the public beta for their IM+ for Skype application. This app will be adding a huge feature which is free calling over Wi-Fi with some MAJOR caveats but still this is HUGE! The problem is that the app only currently supports half-duplex mode which is kind of like a walkie-talkie. You hold down a button to talk and let go to listen.

  • In order to place the VoIP call you need to select the proper call type under Settings->General
  • Then select the contact from your contact list or Call->Call phone from the menu.
  • Please press left convenient key to talk and release to listen

The open beta is available until December 8th at the links below

Shape let me know that active beta tester will be getting free license codes!

  1. But it’s only works when wi-fi is available right?

  2. So…this is more like a walkie talkie. I presume you must press the side button to talk, release to listen as mentioned correct?
Is it exactly like walkie talkies? I mean, if both parties talk at the same time would only one be heard?
I’m new to skype but I’m really into the idea.

Do you mean Skype – IM+ for Skype for BlackBerry talk or BlackBerry to BlackBerry talk?

    • I was thinking one party is on his computer and the other is using his blackberry but since you brought it up, how about blackberry to blackberry, and blackberry to computer?

  4. I just installed it on my new Bold 9700 and i get a connection error with or without WiFi. Did that beta expire?
I double checked my user name and password 3 times already too :o

  5. Amir,
Please make sure you are using version 4.0.25 and try again. Should work for you now.
Please confirm that the problem is fixed. Thanks.
