EA Games Shows Off OpenGL in Need For Speed Shift

EA Games had a great time showing off a live demo of an upcoming game called Need For Speed Shift. (or Tilt I forget… :) ) The game looks awesome on the Storm2 using OS 5.0 and seems to be pushing some serious graphics. They were quoting stats with thousands of polygons and frame rates of 14 frames per second in a few weeks of development.

The game uses the Storm2 features like the accelerometer and touchscreen to make the game interactive. For example, you tap to screen to break and swipe up to turbo boost. You also tilt the device to steer.

Should be a pretty cool game when it launches with OS 5.0 and its OpenGL support. Only the Storm2 currently ships with the OpenGL API but it should be coming to all devices that can run OS 5.0 in the future.

Interesting though that the OpenGL is in the older OS that’s on the Storm2 but not in the newer officially released for the Storm??

    From my BlackBerry Storm…

Yeah, very interesting, but RIM doesn’t find a way to better manage memory, especially on the Storm, gaming isn’t gonna work well. I can barely get through a game of Bejeweled without the damn thing freezing to spin that f’n clock. I still love my Storm though.
