BlackBerry Messenger Avatar & Contact Backup Outage

maninthedark One of our secret agents let us know that there is currently an ongoing outage for two features in BlackBerry Messenger. Not the biggest deal but Avatar sharing and contact backups through email are not working. I am not exactly sure about the scope of this but I ran into the issue last night when I was switching devices…

Impact: BlackBerry subscribers may be unable to view, update avatars or retrieve backup contact lists using BlackBerry Messenger 5.0

  1. This is good to know. I thought maybe it was this 9700 I was using. Glad (well not glad) to see that it isn’t the device itself!

  2. Haven’t tried a backup or restore today but avatar sharing has been down for over 24 hours. Thought it was my users but apparently not!

  3. I did an OS upgrade last night and when the device restord I didnt have contacts in the Messenger. Tried to restore and haven’t been able to. It gives me a message that “it is currently being registerd with the Blackberry Messenger Service”. It not working yet either.

  4. Same problem here in australia as well. still not working. although a little thankful it wasn’t the handset. *phew
