Google Voice BlackBerry App v0.1.6 Released – No Change Log

GoogleVoice1.6 That was a quick update from Google since they just updated Google Voice 2 weeks ago. Nikolaus let me know that Google has updated Google Voice for BlackBerry to version 0.1.6 from version 0.1.5.1. Once again it is a pretty minor version bump but considering how popular Google Voice is and the features Google has been adding it is probably worth downloading.

  1. Compare to previous version. I see that it connects a lot faster and prvoides no error messages, i.e. “Cannot load history”.

Now I don’t know if this had to do with the fact I just put 5.0 on my BOLD

  2. Works great on my 8900 (5.0.0.314) and no errors or issues, but don’t see new features either. Maybe it is just faster or offically supports OS 5.0 or new models.

  4. Another version with no change to any of the 7 deadly sins of the original version:

    1) Unlike the gmail app, where when you’re not connected to the network you can send a message that will wait in your outbox until you reconnect, google voice does not allow you to send a text message if you’re not currently connected to the network.

    2) Auto-text function does not work when composing SMS.

    3) No character count when composing SMS.

    4) No alert when text messages are received (no ring or vibrate).

    5) Voicemails need to be downloaded again every time you want to listen. It should download to my memory card the way Youmail does it. Also, it should download automatically right when the message is received, instead of manually pressing and waiting for download to come through.

    6) No easy access to contacts like on BlackBerry dialer where you begin typing a name and it pulls up the address book quickly to call.

    7) SMS conversation does not show who sent which message. All messages (sent and received) are displayed with the other party’s name.

I wonder what they’re doing with all these updates…
