Its not about being "second rate". At some point life goes on and while those of us left behind by the march of progress can have our gripes about little things like this sometimes there ARE upsides! A lot of people were eligible and bought a 9630 right when it came out and those who weren't eligible but are now or soon will are gonna have far more device options (9550, 9650, 8530/8550) while we are "second rate" and can't have optical trackpad or WiFi or whatever for another year and a half. Plus what other totally unknown devices might launch by the time you guys are eligible? A 8950 maybe? Or a 9750? Or something completely unforseen yet? Old devices get left behind in the upgrade cycle. We never got 4.5 for any of the 7xxx series, a lot of us then had to wait for a new device before we could marvel in the splendor of HTML email...

My feeling is not true the statement that RIM does not support the 8520 models with OS 5.0 and BlackBerry 8520 has been qualified among them have more memory than 64 MB.

try to read again, there is not a list of the BlackBerry 9520 and 9700 and 9550

I ran a leaked 5.0 on my 8330. Lets just say that when I am ready for 5.0, I will buy a tour. It was pretty suspect. The 'new' features were definately not worth it, after install and I am pretty anal about keeping my free memory up, I was only getting about 13mb left over, and the thing just was sloowwww. Plus a lot of websites were not rendering correctly.

The KB explains it. No 64MB, no 5.0.

What's a "World Edition" 8330? Who offered that?

RIM want to pitch 8520 devices as low cost devices. Hence, To keep a difference between 8520 and the beefier 8900 they are not releasing 5.0 for 8520. I do not think RIM would make a major mistake in such a crucial matter.

Initially (several months ago) they'd made it sound like 81xx, 83xx, and 88xx devices would be getting 5.0. I'd wondered then how well that work. Those devices struggled (spinning hourglass and lags) with OS 4.5 unless you removed modules to clear space or limited loading third party apps. I'd have been surprised if they wound up useable with 5.0's extra size loaded.

I'm guessing the 8330 only gets it since the newer ones and the World Edition ones have 96 Mb memory. Too bad, specially since the 8220 really isn't a 100% alternative to the 81xx series.

This really isn't too much of a surprise though, RIM seems intent to release 4 or so handsets a year, so they're likely going to be looking forward now more so than looking back.

Bb with more than 64mb of memory will get OS 5.0. Not sure why the 8520 isn't listed. Could be a mistake
