Most British Police Forces to be Equipped With BlackBerrys
Quite a few readers sent in this interesting new development. It looks like 30 different British police forces have been testing out issuing BlackBerrys to officers. They seem to be pretty happy with the program and plan on rolling it out to most forces in 2010.
The stats speak for themselves showing that BlackBerry equipped officers spent 30 minutes less per shift in police stations. This brought down their total time in police buildings from 46% to 36%. The applications on the BlackBerrys give officers access to information they used to only be able to get from station computers like criminal records, vehicle data, and more. It even lets them send back pictures of where they are and submit reports.
Pretty impressive if I may say so myself. It is always nice to see a new industry realize the benefits of mobilizing their employees. BlackBerrys seem to be getting pretty popular with police departments with rollouts happening around the country. It makes me wonder if these rollouts will be expanded or cut back due to the current economic climate…
Let us know if you have a specific scenario where BlackBerrys have helped you be more productive outside of the office.
