Verizon does the same thing with high demand releases. Puts them out OTA and via the DM and then posts the dl file on the website sometime later. I suspect it's to keep the servers from being hammered.

I nice Sprint customer could zip up their download cache and upload it online someplace if they wanted to be really nice . . . they did that a couple times with Storm OS's.

An article from October 6 on Inside Sprint Now stated the update would be released by RIM on October 13 and available by the carrier October 19. Here is a link to the article:

http://insidesprintnow.wordpress.com/2009/10/06/blackberry-9630-tour-maintenance-release-1013/

Obviously the update was made available before October 13. I received an email from RIM Friday just after 5PM about it and I downloaded it right away. I can confirm this new OS does solve the GPS issue with Google Maps. Before, even on 4.7.1.53, I could only get triangulation with Google Maps and it was usually way off. However, now it immediately finds me within 10 meters when I'm inside my house. If I go outside it pegs me within 3 meters (most often closer to 5 - 8).

I'm not familiar with the BES side of things so I don't know the process works for BES customers to be able to download new OS's.

If Sprint has officially released this, why is it not available on their download site (https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=FC3CF452D3DA8402BEBB765225CE8C0E)?

Yes, I am. It's BPS 4.1.4, and I'm the only one on it (so I manage it myself). I was literally just checking to see if the update was available via Desktop Manager, and no go :/

Derek-are you on BES by any chance? I understand only BIS customers are automatically getting the update when they connect their phones to the Desktop Manager.

Wireless Update finds no updates for me, so I will try this evening through DM. I just recently got my Tour, and I have been having issues with Google Maps not zeroing in on my location very well, so this certainly would be nice...

The wireless update worked just fine for me via an XP computer. My husband had some issues with trying to do it on his Vista laptop, but when he then switched to mine it worked fine. DM was did not have all of his installed applications checked by default on the Vista laptop - things like Phone, Memopad, etc, were not checked. Weird.

The 2 things I've found fixed so far are video playback (playback was choppy before with .40) and Google Maps can now zero in on my GPS location.
