This Gizmodo story about the Apple Genius bar really caught my eye since I live in NYC. It turns out that one Gizmodo reader, Manoj, tried taking his phone into the iPhone genius bar in NYC for dropping calls. His iPhone reported that it dropped about 22% of calls and he thought something was wrong.
Turns out that Apple claimed the device is fine. He claims the “Genius” said that dropping 30%+ of calls in NYC on AT&T is “NORMAL.” I can’t wait for AT&T to lose the iPhone exclusive. If they renew it I am definitely switching carriers!

If anyone actually believe this load of horse-hockey from AT&T as an excuse for inferior service, then I have a bridge to sell you. PM me for details

As far as I’m concerned, you can add Philadelphia to the mix. Center City. Calls drop once a night. Dead zones all over the place. It didn’t used to be this way. What changed? Congestion from iPhone? Love the Bold. Hate the carrier.

I live in the Bronx and work in the Wall Street area. My service in the Bx is excellent. My service in Lower Manhattan is terrible. There are so many dead spots all over Lower Manhattan….you would think that is where you would get the best service, but it’s not.

Verizon is supposedly the best but they have some areas where service is not great. However, this is in outlying suburbs away from major roads. In NYC I’m great 99% of the time. The funny thing is I used to have a Pearl on AT&T about 2 years ago and didn’t thing it was all that bad either. I don’t do a lot of chatting so maybe that’s why.

I’m on Tmo, and surprisingly the only time I’ve ever had cell troubles was when I was at school, at Cornell U. That’s mostly because we were basically a town surrounded by the boondocks. Cornell is very advanced, but outside, not so much.

Sprint with their supposedly “reliable” service, I had occasional dropped calls in CA. So far haven’t had any since switching to AT&T.

What with this horse-hockey comment? Its a very poor use of world’s greatest sport

had sprint for a few years. moved to an area that had absolutely no service.
after fighting with them for a couple of months they cancelled all 4 lines without bending me over.
been with att for a couple of years and have absolutely no complaints whatsoever.
