Hippopost Lets You Send Free Postcards From Your BlackBerry

hippopost I know this business model has been tried before but it still is intriguing. An ex-RIM employee reached out to us about this new product he is working on. The service and app are called Hippopost and they let you send free printed postcards from your BlackBerry. You just take a picture and add your message and the recipients address. Hippopost will print out a postcard with that info and mail it within 7-10 days.

The service is ad sponsored so the postcard you send out will have a advertisement on it. You can actually choose the sponsor you wish from the application and send up to two free postcards a day unless you want to buy credits for more.

Right now the service is active in Canada but they are planning on starting delivering US postcards on October 15th after they arrange for sponsors. You can still download the app now at mobile.hippopost.com from your BlackBerry browser.

via CrackBerry where Kevin was kind enough to flesh out some more details in his article about the service. I am still holding out until they have US delivery dates before trying it out.

I see in the welcome screen it says it’s available to USA and Canada.
I signed up with a USA address and asked that the postcard be sent to the USA, it all appeared to go through OK, we’ll see in 7-10 Days.

I was confused on the whole credits thing. So you have 2 free per day, and if you want to send more than 2 per day you can buy credits, but otherwise up to 2 per day is free, correct?
