Now this is some welcome news. There were some pretty good signs pointing towards a 3G 9700 Bold/Onyx coming to T-Mobile this year (including a picture of one) but this more or less confirms it. Al Sacco over at CIO was sent a email from T-Mobile’s US PR firm before any embargo agreement.
They also sent him a little blurb about it:
The BlackBerry ‘Onyx’ sports a premium experience and design with a high-gloss black finish and leather grain detail on the back. Boasting features such as high-speed 3G Web browsing, Wi-Fi calling, visual voicemail and support for corporate and personal e-mail options, the ‘Onyx’ will satisfy all your on-the-go needs. Also the phone comes preloaded with mobile applications from BlackBerry App World, including Amazon MP3 store for quick and easy music downloads and TeleNav GPS Navigator for turn-by-turn directions.
The device is not officially called a Bold yet and we won’t know that for sure until later. Hopefully this will include UMA support with Wi-Fi at launch. The addition of the Amazon MP3 store is interesting. So what do you think?

Looks great! I do assume it will support UMA, wouldn’t make any sense not to. Notice they are officially saying Onyx where as before it was Driftwood for T-Mo and Onyx for other carriers? Onyx does sound better. Will be picking this one up the day it comes out!

Need advice on how to get this for less than full price even though my current contract is only a few months old (due to 8900). My wife’s is up however. I wonder if I can get a deal if I get two 9700. Anyone got any advice?

Lucky for me, my best friend works at T-mobile, and always gets good discounts, she does owe me a bday present… I might even be able to get a date out of her…

I am psyched over this. I have been holding onto my crappy AT&T service for 2 months (after my contract expired) and keep stopping myself from getting the Bold from AT&T at $125 from Amazon… Waiting for this. I still have my T-Mo service (since 2001) so I am eligible for Loyalty unlimited plan. I hope they won’t price this something like $399 (what they did with 8800, ridiculous) so that I can get it. I love UMA it works very nicely on my wifes 8900 without any problems.
Come on T-Mo, just do it already so I can switch back.

Hi, I was wondering what is a loyalty unlimited plan and how much is it? I’ve been with tmobile for 10 years now and am wondering if i could ask for a better plan service. Thanks!

The T-Mo “Loyalty Unlimted Plan” is unlimited calling for $49.99 and is only available to T-Mo customers who have been with T-Mo 22+ months and is good standing.
