I just did the update OTA. I'm having connectivity issues, so I connected to Wi-Fi. The whole thing took about an hour before the BB was working again. The download was in the neighborhood of 9 MB, and only took a few minutes. The device did a backup (and a later restore) for another few minutes. The rest of the time it was loading Java and linking Java and other tasks. The update did a great job of letting me know what it was doing and showing me progress bars and elapsed times. This assured me that the device wasn't bricked, which I appreciated.
I can see that there are some new functions, including my ability to choose between 2G or 2G/3G networks. I've had lots of problems roaming overseas, and I'm already optimistic that this will give me more choice in selecting networks. I also have lots of "call failed" moments, and I think that the 2G option might help me deal with that, if the OS (or the previous one) hasn't fixed the problem.
