HOT!!! BlackBerry App World Catalog Now Available From Your Desktop

FINALLY! RIM just let us know that the BlackBerry App World Catalog is now available online from your desktop! You can find it at www.blackberry.com/appworld.

BlackBerry-App-World-catalog

The catalog gives you access to all the apps along with browsing featured items, top downloads, categories or subcategories, as well as searching for applications by name, "free," "paid," or "new."

The catalog includes the description, pricing, size of download, screenshots and reviews. You can also see what device and carrier restrictions exist. You can then provide your email address and a URL will be sent to your BlackBerry which you can click on and automatically fire up the App World to that app.

I think this feature should have been available when App World launched but better late then never! The best part is that we can now finally link to apps that are only available in the App World.

It only gives you 2 options:

1) Install from your handset.

2) Install from your desktop to your handset.

There is no option to install it on your desktop only.

  I guess I don’t understand what would be the point? Why would you want a BlackBerry app but not want it either on your phone or on your pc for install on your phone?

    For me the big deal is that I can browse the app catalog faster on my PC and then decide what I want. Browsing on my blackberry is painful.

I was talking about the actual AppWorld. I couldn’t find where to view it with the desktop only and not through the device. But now I found it.

It’s standard functionality that the other app stores have, regardless.

Ovi Store, App Store, Handmark, Handango, etc.

Can someone with an old Pearl or Curve or 88xx confirm if you can browse App World from your PC, then select to download something and it emails the link and you can download/install it without having to install App World on your phone? If so, that’s a great step forward! As limited as those devices are in memory, it’s great for them to be able to get apps without having pp World hogging on device memory!!
