Gwabbit Upgrades Recognition Engine… Better Value?

gwabbitGwabbit sent me an email letting me know that their recognition engine has been upgraded to version 2. Specific updates include:

  • Better recognition of non-US phone numbers and non-US addresses
  • Better recognition and parsing of HTML emails, taking into account the formatting of the signature block, including stylized text
  • Improved handling for new varieties of signature structures, based on the feedback submitted
  • Better separation of the “thread” (older email in the same conversation) so as to more accurately identify contact information of the sender
  • Overall improved recognition

Their app costs $9.99 per year as a subscription and still fails to compete well with the free Anagram application for BlackBerry which does more or less the same thing…

  1. I, too, will continue to use the free Anagram app. I recently identified an issue to the Anagram support team, and their response was extremely responsive — both timely and professional. They have since provided a test build (in less than 48 hours!) that addressed the issue — the official release should be coming soon.

  2. Anagram is one of a number of manual contact grabbers that have been on the market for several years. To our knowledge, gwabbit is the first and only automatic contact grabber. What’s the difference? Try painting a contact block manually with your BlackBerry trackball and you’ll get a sense of the value of an automatic grabber compared with a manual one.

  3. Todd are you looking at the blackberry version of anagram? I admit gwabbit does find signatures automatically but it really takes less than a second to select text holding the ALT key on a blackberry.
It also has the added benefit of not sending the whole email to their server and no yearly fee…

  4. Well, I DL of Gwabbit for BB when it 1st came out and it almost always put the address info in the wrong field on my bb. However, the outlook version works really well. If you go to the Gwabbit website, not App World, they are offering an Outlook/BB bundle for $24.95. Essentially, reg price for the Outlook version and the BB version for $5 for the 1st year. Since I purchased outlook v already, I emailed their support and they said they would honor the bundle price. Might be worth a try for 5 bucks if the new engine works well. Still love Anagram, though. Especially being able to copy the date info from any email/webpage etc and have Anagram make a Calendar appt out of it.
