Twitter Down/Unavailable Due to Ongoing DDoS – Resume Your Normal Life…

ddos Looks like our beloved Twitter is being bombarded with a DDoS attack. DDoS is a distributed denial of service attack which is pretty easy to pull off and difficult to defend against for websites that are used by so many users. It essentially floods Twitters bandwidth with fake requests until it cannot handle any valid requests.

Just wanted to let you all know since I have been getting quite a few questions asking what’s up with Twitter. Best of luck to them!

Oh no! How will I live without knowing if random Internet people are “Off to lunch.” Or if they “Wonder if it will rain today?”?

    • I love comments like this, because clearly you have no idea how social media is supposed to be used. Are there people who just tweet inane crap like that and never interact with anyone? Sure, but those people don’t get it either, and really *are* “doing it wrong.” It’s called “social” media for a reason, and you only get out of Twitter what you put into it. If you simply use it as your personal sounding board, then you obviously aren’t going to get much value out of it. Once you realize how it really should be used, and start making connections with people and sharing information/news/etc, then it actually makes a lot more sense.

Twitter Creator On Iran: ‘I Never Intended For Twitter To Be Useful’

        June 24, 2009 | Issue 45•26

SAN FRANCISCO—Creator Jack Dorsey was shocked and saddened this week after learning that his social networking device, Twitter, was being used to disseminate pertinent and timely information during the recent civil unrest in Iran. “Twitter was intended to be a way for vacant, self-absorbed egotists to share their most banal and idiotic thoughts with anyone pathetic enough to read them,” said a visibly confused Dorsey, claiming that Twitter is at its most powerful when it makes an already attention-starved populace even more needy for constant affirmation. “When I heard how Iranians were using my beloved creation for their own means—such as organizing a political movement and informing the outside world of the actions of a repressive regime—I couldn’t believe they’d ruined something so beautiful, simple, and absolutely pointless.” Dorsey said he is already working on a new website that will be so mind-numbingly useless that Iranians will not even be able to figure out how to operate it.

Its like 9/11 but for social media!

Considering that Twitter is such a big fail whale anyways, I wouldn’t doubt if its just a 14 year old kid in Somolia with a Commodore64.
