A colleague showed off a pair of these bone conducting headphones to me last week and the idea just stuck in my head. Unlike traditional headphones that go in or over your ear bone conducting headphones just rest on your jawbone. That leaves your ears free to hear ambient noise like cars about to hit you and subway announcements. How cool is that?
Personally I am a huge fan of Shure in-ear headphones since they block out ALL ambient noise but I can see where hearing your surroundings would be useful. The audio quality is not amazing but it is pretty good especially considering the fact that it is a totally new technology. I just cannot get over how this works!
Still most people will balk at the $130+ price tag of the popular Audio Bone’s but if you are one of those people who loves to have the latest and greatest (to show off)… its worth every penny.

This is not a totally new technology. I remember seeing an ad for something like this 29 years ago in one of those geek mags
