Desktop Manager 5.0.0.11 Auto-update – Fixes Database Backup Error Issues

Desktop Manager 5.0.0.8 made a pretty splash when the BlackBerry Tour was released. I got quite a few emails these past few days that RIM has been pushing out Desktop Manager 5.0.0.11 as an automatic update. Until now I just assumed it was a bug fix but did not know what it fixed exactly so I did not mention it.

Tom and a few other readers sent in tips pointing to the fact that this version fixes some of the database backup errors causing problems in 5.0. For example when doing a backup, instead of failing when there is an error, it will now tell you what database failed and offer to continue and complete the backup. Now that is worth mentioning!

You can pickup 5.0.0.8 directly now or through Verizon (use any number) and then check for updates to get this version.

That’s a HUGE fix for a glaring problem that was plagued DM forever. Ridiculous that I could manually backup and selectively restore the databases but the automatic during a firmware upgrade was too dumb to tell me which was the problem.
