Tweetcaster BlackBerry Twitter Client – Only Costs One Tweet…

tweetcaster Tweetcaster is an interesting new app from Handmark. It is the only app I know of that you have to tweet about to download it. Never heard of such a app model but I guess it makes sense. There are a ton of free and relatively cheap alternatives like UberTwitter but Tweetcaster has an solid feature set and the especially welcome support for MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS but you do have to toggle between them.

  • URL shortening
  • Picture sharing
  • @replies & retweets
  • GPS locator
  • Toggle multiple accounts
  • Trending topics

You can download the app free at this link but you need to provide your twitter credentials for Handmark to send out your tweet. I am not sure how comfortable I feel about handing them over but if they were malicious I guess they could just program it into their app to steal your credentials…

You can find a demo video of the app in action at this link.

The Tweet you need to send out to get the app free is:

Just got #TweetCaster by Handmark FREE for my BlackBerry in exchange for this tweet. Get yours: http://tinyurl.com/TweetCaster

I just cannot believe how we have over 10 Twitter clients for BlackBerry yet only have 2 RSS clients…

Sounds like a great app, however I tried twice and got 500 internal server errors from Handmarks server. So I now have 2 of their promo tweets in my @Zelrick timeline and no app. :-(

After you send the tweet, it doesn’t do anything. It just give you the 500/Bad Gateway error. I think it’s a scam.

  7. This app (TweetCaster) sucks! big time. The interface is horrible. I like, YATCA, SocialScope and Ubertwitter. All these 3 Twitter clients are awesome! and to top it all 3 are free too!

What RSS clients are you including in the 2? I’ve never been a huge fan of Viigo, as it’s a huge bundle if I only want to use it for RSS feeds that I choose, not all the sports and other stuff they include. I use Newsgator Go! because I can sync feeds and read items between my RSS readers (using FeedDemon on my PC and their Mac version on my Macbook). Is there another that I’m not aware of? If so, does it sync read items?

    • There is freerange but that is made by the same company as Feeddeamon and they just got bought out by handmark. Nothing new coming on that front yet

Great, thanks for the update. I really wish google would come out with some way to sync reads between another reader and their browser based reader. I’d much prefer to use Google Reader to share my feeds with friends, but I can’t justify clicking read twice on every single item (once on my berry and once when I open a browser on my desktop).
