Google Voice BlackBerry App Coming Sometime Today? – Awesome Features!
I know this might be a bit of a tease for those of you who do not have a Google Voice account yet but hopefully you will have one soon. Vincent Paquet, co-founder of GrandCentral, confirmed yesterday that Google is launching a Google Voice application for BlackBerry and Android.
The new app will let you:
- Make local and long distance calls with your Google Voice number showing as caller ID
- Access and playback voicemails and transcriptions
- Send AND receive text messages to your Google Voice number
The app essentially uses your cellphone carriers connection to call Google Voice which then initiates a call out to your destination. I am not sure how Google is going to make up for the costs of these calls but hopefully it is cheap. Supposedly you need a data connection for these calls.
The most interesting part is that this essentially removes your carriers control over your cellphone. They would no longer own your number and you could easily switch phones like no tomorrow.
Sadly there are no screenshots on a BlackBerry but it is supposedly coming sometime today so we don’t have much longer to wait!
