7Digital & Thumbplay Both Working on Mobile Music Stores

7digitalblackberry2RIM has needed a music store to compete with the iTunes store for quite awhile. We have had some small names step into the fray like Nobex, Didiom, PureTracks, & more but now two big players are planning on stepping into the arena.

I got a preview of the upcoming Thumbplay music store that really impressed me. It let you download music OTA to your device with great quality. It worked like a charm on my Bold and let me listen to snippets of each song. It also had great search capabilities like searching by artist or album and drill down options. They are planning on releasing their on device music store later this year.

7Digital is also planning on on releasing a on device music store in September in the US, UK, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, & Spain. Sounds pretty cool!

Personally I think they need to address some issues like music quality and recovery. For example, if your music becomes corrupted during download or some other way is there a way to redownload it? Also what quality of a track will you get?

So what do you think? Are you interested in buying music from your BlackBerry?
