RealPlayer SP Beta Offers Free Video Converting For BlackBerry

Developer: Real Cost: Free

realplayersp I was at Pepcom on Wednesday for Real’s release of RealPlayer SP Beta. The new free app helps you transcode video easily to a BlackBerry friendly format. You just select the video and the your BlackBerry version and it will do its magic. It can even pickup video from YouTube and convert it using a simple button on top of each video. You can also tweak the setting like bitrates if you wish so you are not stuck with their profiles.

Many of these simple end user apps have either been a little too complicated like MediaCoder or cost money. RealPlayer SP is free and from what I heard will remain free. I am not sure if I will install RealPlayer again on my machine after all the headaches it caused in the years past but its worth a try if you need a simple video transcoding solution.

Features include:

  • Play Web video on nearly any device, including the Blackberry family, Nokia smartphones, iPhone, iPod, iTunes, Xbox, and many others through automatic conversion and transfer to the correct device format, including Flash, Windows Media, QuickTime & RealVideo.
  • Save time by downloading several videos or transferring the same video to many different devices from one screen.
  • Add custom device profiles and easily change format settings to maximize video quality and control for a device.
  • Support for latest versions of Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome.

Check it out at www.realplayer.com and let me know what you think!

It’s pretty cool that it grabs the video but sites like KeepVid can do that for you as well.

As far as conversion for BlackBerry or anything else, I have never come across anything more simple (or more free) than FormatFactory.

  2. Real has made some of the most bloated and ill behaved apps I have ever had the displeasure of installing. Stolen file associates without asking, installed software without asking, slow, buggy and terrible UI. They made adobe and MS look like code efficiency superstars. I would even install this on a virtual machine that can be rolled back with a snapshot.
