BIS Upgrade/Outage June 26 11PM –> June 27th 3AM Pacific Time
Earlier today Jacob let me know that US Cellular is upgrading their BIS to 2.7 on June 27th, 2009. John Yester posted on the BB-Outages list with a bit more detail saying that it is scheduled for Pacific Time: 6/26 11 PM- 6/27 3 AM. The upgrade seems to be for all the US, Canada, & Americas. During that time you will not have access to BIS service. TC confirmed all of this so it looks like we will be getting the same upgrade that happened in Europe and Asia earlier this month.
Enhancements are pretty irrelevant for regular users but you can see them below:
- Simpler BIS email setup including (all users regardless of BlackBerry device software).
- Clearer procedure to close the BIS email setup wizard – this will take the customer back to the homescreen or setup folder (based on device software).
- Better explanation of the new mailbox icon to appear after email integration – new explanatory text within the setup flow informing customer of the appearance (and purpose) of the mailbox icon.
- Other simplifications and additional help – updated help screens which include ability to link to mobile Help site and ability to send service books.
This looks like just a simple maintenance update like we told you earlier. What I have been hearing is that this is just a precursor to get them ready for a few features in OS 5.0 like a wizard app for setting up your BIS accounts from your BlackBerry.
