Scalix BES Connector Offers Replacement for Exchange

Join the Conversation »

scalix Scalix let me know that they have released a public beta of their Scalix Connect for BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Scalix is essentially a Microsoft Exchange alternative and now it even works like a charm with BES for Exchange. I am really liking this new trend of 3rd party solutions getting support for BES.

Scalix is a Linux email, group calendaring, and collaboration solution that is very similar in features to Exchange. They even have a free version for up to 10 users. This could really help companies trim some costs.

So far the BES connector:

  • transparently supports the Blackberry user experience without any client side installation
  • enables full over-the-air (OTA) synchronization between BlackBerry devices and Scalix
  • works seamlessly with the Blackberry Enterprise Server for Exchange
  • features supported include: push email, wireless over-the-air contact, calendar and task synchronization, meeting scheduling, and remote address book/GAL lookup

The public beta is available at this link for Scalix if you want to give it a shot. You can read more at this link.
