Phoenix Freeze: Automatically Lock Your PC When You Walk Away

Developer: Pheonix Freeze Cost: $9.95

pheonixfreeze TTune let me know about this cool app for your PC.  Essentially it uses the Bluetooth identifier on your BlackBerry to know when you are near your PC. It can then:

  • Lock or unlock your XP or Vista PC when you walk away or come back
  • You can set your laptop or PC to go into power saving mode when you walk away to save energy and battery life
  • The lock and unlock is automatic (though it can be a bit delayed especially if you set it to power save)

The caveat is that you need Bluetooth on your PC or laptop for this to work and you need your BlackBerry to have Bluetooth turned on. This is not a big deal for current laptops which practically all have this. The cool function is that you can set the proximity sensor on different levels of sensitivity. For example, if you only want it to unlock when you are very close or if you are 10 feet away.

There are a couple concerns I have with the application like it taking over your Bluetooth stack from what I can tell but so far it works well for many users. It has a 7 day trial for you to give it a shot after which it looks like the price is $9.95.

Check it out at www.Phoenixfreeze.com and let me know what you think!
